Tips for Having a Safe Thanksgiving with Your Dog!

When you think of Thanksgiving, you may think of the friends and family that you are going to see. This includes your Dog, as they are part of the family too. Your dog will more than likely want to partake in the Thanksgiving festivities with you. Here are some tips to keep your dog safe and healthy while celebrating:

Thanksgiving foods that should be Avoided

  •  Alliums: These include Onions, Garlic, Scallions, and a few others.
  • Grapes
  • Xylitol. Xylitol is a sugar substitute that can be used in a wide range of products and can be very harmful to your pet. Make sure to check the ingredient list of any food that you are planning on giving to your dog.
  • Chocolate
  • Alcohol
  • Turkey Bones and skin

A lot of the above can be used as ingredients in many Thanksgiving dishes. Please, check all dishes before feeding to your dog.

Thanksgiving foods that your dog can Enjoy:

  • Well cooked Turkey
  • Mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Green beans
  • Pumpkin

The above foods are safe for your pet in small servings. You can make a plate of the foods listed in this safe foods section and know that your pet is going to have a great and safe Thanksgiving!

With the holidays, we get to see our family and their little ones. Whether that be their children or their pets. Some things to keep if you are bringing your furry friend are:

  • Keep your dog supervised at all times. Especially when your dog is interacting with children.
  • Make sure your dog is friendly and well socialized.
  • Be sure to set ground rules with your friends and family members about feeding your dog.
  • Set rules on how your dog is to be handled (likes to be picked up, etc)
  • Be sure your dog is okay with tight, crowded spaces.
  • Ask about any other pets that will be in attendance and plan accordingly.
  • Lastly, have fun!

Here at Pawz®, we sincerely hope that everyone has a great and safe Thanksgiving! We also thank you for your continued support and patronage on our journey to save the dogs!

Disclaimer: We cannot guarantee the safety of any of the foods listed above, as each individual dog may have allergies or sensitivities.
